GYM Remind - Complete Guide
Everything you need to know about using GYM Remind - from logging your first workout to managing years of training history.
Overview
GYM Remind is a fully featured fitness tracking platform that runs entirely in your web browser. There is no server, no account, and no app to install. All your data is stored locally using your browser's built-in storage.
The app is organized into 13 modules accessible from the sidebar on the left. Each module has a specific job - from logging workouts to tracking daily habits. You navigate between them by clicking the icons in the sidebar.
Quick Start
When you first open the app, a setup wizard walks you through the basics. Here's what happens and what to expect:
Keyboard Shortcuts
Dashboard
The Dashboard is your home base. It gives you a live snapshot of today's performance without needing to navigate to individual sections.
Stat Cards
Eight cards show: Current Weight, Goal Weight, Calories Today, Protein Today, Water Today, Workout Streak, Body Fat %, and Weekly Workouts. All values pull from your real logged data and update as you add entries.
Habits Panel
Shows today's 5 habits with a progress bar and percentage. You can check habits directly from the Dashboard - no need to navigate to Daily Tracker.
Streak Panel
Displays the current and longest streak for each of your 5 habits.
Recent Workouts
Shows your last 4 workout sessions with date, duration, and exercise count.
Daily Tracker
The Daily Tracker is a habit checklist that resets automatically at midnight each day. It tracks streaks to help you build consistency.
Checking Habits
Click any habit row to toggle it on or off. When all 5 habits are completed, a celebration animation plays and a toast notification fires. The progress bar at the top shows your daily completion percentage.
Streaks
Each habit tracks a current streak (consecutive days completed) and a longest streak. Missing one day resets the current streak but not the record.
Customizing Habit Names
Go to Settings and scroll to "Daily Habit Names" to rename any of the 5 habits. The defaults are: Creatine Taken, Protein Goal Met, Workout Completed, Water Goal Met, and Sleep 7-9 Hours.
History
The last 14 days of habit history are shown below the checklist, with which habits were completed each day and a percentage badge.
Nutrition Tracking
Log your daily food intake with full macronutrient and micronutrient breakdown. Each entry tracks calories, protein, carbohydrates, fat, fiber, sugar, and water.
Logging an Entry
Daily Summary
Progress bars show how close you are to your daily targets (set in Goals). The macro donut chart shows the ratio of protein, carbs, and fat for today's entries.
Quick Water Log
Use the quick water buttons (+250ml, +500ml, +750ml, +1L) to log water without filling in a full entry form.
History
All entries appear in the history list, grouped by date. Click the trash icon to delete any entry. The list is searchable.
Body Progress
Track up to 13 body measurements per entry. Measurements are stored in metric internally and converted to imperial for display if you've selected imperial units in Settings.
Available Measurements
| Field | Unit | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Weight | kg / lbs | Used by Goals and Dashboard |

Log workouts with full exercise breakdowns. Each workout can contain unlimited exercises, and each exercise can contain unlimited sets.
Logging a Workout
Workout Templates
Click "Templates" to load a preset workout structure (Push Day, Pull Day, Legs, Full Body, Upper Body, Lower Body). Templates pre-fill the exercise list so you only need to enter the weights.
Workout Timer
Click "Start Timer" in the Workout Log header to start a session timer. The timer persists while you navigate between sections. When you stop it, the duration is automatically filled into the workout modal if it's open.
Rest Timer
After adding a set, click the timer icon on the exercise row to start a rest countdown. Choose from 30s, 60s, 90s, 2 min, or 3 min. A popup shows the countdown and alerts you when rest is complete.
Editing and Deleting
Each workout in the history list has an edit button (pencil icon) that reopens it in the modal, and a delete button (trash icon). Edits are saved as a complete replacement of the original entry.
1RM Calculator
Available in the Personal Records section. Enter a weight and reps to estimate your one-rep max using the Epley formula. Percentages for common rep ranges are shown.
Goals
Set up to 6 fitness goals. Progress bars pull from your real logged data and update automatically as you log workouts, nutrition, and body measurements.
Available Goals
| Goal | Data Source |
|---|---|
| Target Weight | Latest body progress entry |
| Daily Calories | Today's nutrition total |
| Daily Protein | Today's protein total |

Editing Goals
Goals can be updated at any time. The current values are shown in the input fields - just change what you want and click "Save Goals." You can also set a target deadline date per goal to track your timeline.
BMR Calculator
Click "Calculate BMR" to estimate your Basal Metabolic Rate using the Mifflin-St Jeor equation. Enter age, height, weight, gender, and activity level. The result suggests a calorie target that you can apply directly to your goals.
Personal Records
Log and track your best lifts per exercise. Each exercise maintains a full history of every PR you've logged, sorted from newest to oldest.
Logging a PR
Select or type an exercise name, enter the weight and/or reps, select the date, and click "Save PR." The exercise card shows your best (heaviest) lift as the headline number. Click "History" on any card to see all entries.
PR Progress Chart
In the Charts section, a dedicated chart shows the progression of your selected exercise's PR over time - so you can visualize your strength gains.
1RM Calculator
Enter any weight and rep count to estimate your one-rep max. The result table shows training weights for 60%, 70%, 80%, 90%, and 100% of your estimated 1RM.

Settings
Theme
Toggle between dark (default) and light theme. The header also has a sun/moon button that switches theme from any section.
Accent Color
Choose from 6 accent colors: Blue (default), Purple, Green, Orange, Red, and Pink. The selected color is applied to buttons, highlights, active states, and chart elements.
Units
Switch between metric (kg, cm) and imperial (lbs, inches). All existing and future entries display in the selected unit. Values are stored in metric internally.
Daily Habit Names
Rename the 5 daily habits to match your actual routine. Type new names in the 5 fields and click "Save Habit Names." Changes apply immediately across the Daily Tracker, Dashboard, and streak displays.
Storage Usage
Shows how much localStorage you are using and approximately what percentage of the typical 5 MB limit. This updates each time you open Settings.
Backup & Restore
Since GYM Remind has no cloud backend, your own backups are your safety net. Make them regularly.
Export JSON Backup
Goes to Settings - click "Export JSON Backup." A file named gymremind-backup-YYYY-MM-DD.json downloads automatically. This contains all your data.
Import Backup
Click "Import Backup" in Settings and select a previously exported JSON file. All data in the file is written to localStorage. This merges with existing data by key - existing data for any category in the file will be overwritten.
Export CSV
Downloads a simplified CSV of your workouts and nutrition entries - useful for viewing in Excel or Google Sheets. This is not a complete backup; use JSON for full backups.

Storage Limits
Browser localStorage is typically limited to 5 MB per origin (some browsers allow up to 10 MB). Here's what uses the most space:
| Data Type | Typical Size | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Workouts (1 year) | ~50-200 KB | Depends on exercises per session |
| Nutrition (1 year) | ~30-80 KB | Multiple entries per day |
| Body Progress (1 year) | ~20-50 KB | Weekly entries |
| Habits (1 year) | ~20-40 KB | Daily history |
| Photos (each) | ~500 KB - 3 MB | Largest storage consumer |
| Notes (100 notes) | ~20-100 KB | Depends on length |
Privacy
GYM Remind is built with privacy as a core constraint, not an afterthought.
- All data is stored exclusively in your browser's localStorage using the
gr_*key prefix - No data is ever sent to a server - there is no server
- No analytics scripts, no ad networks, no tracking pixels
- No cookies are set (localStorage is not a cookie)
- The app can function fully offline after the first page load
